My inclination for psychology was always driven by my intuition and personal experience
with mental health. Specifically with certain disorders such as Anxiety and ADHD, along with how the brain works and maps
to specific behaviors. Using
the scientific method as a framework to study the human brain and behavior, psychology remains a deeply
nestled affinity that is transferrable to many aspects of life.
The creative side of mind was another important aspect which bubbled up and directed my course into a new
domain, notably app development.
The catalyst for diving into an Intro to Programming course was born through my own mobile app idea. I
held onto this idea for years and never thought I quite embodied the ‘type’ for programming, coding or engineering.
However, with support from others, self-determination, and embracing my unique mix of abilities I took on the challenge to learn
to code.
I self-taught Java as my first language. I slowly came around to the novel, highly technical and
abstract concepts of OOP. I then enrolled in courses at my college for: Java 1 and 2, Intro to C, to
Web Development, Databases, Networking and Android Mobile App development.
I graduated with two AA (Associate of the Arts) degrees along with a certificate in Software
Development. A participating member of my college Computer Club where I became more affluent with comp sci
'culture'. Learning, assisting and socializing with other students and faculty in the space.
I then branched out (no pun intended, or maybe) into local communities to network and continue in the
presence of likeminded people who share a career or interest for UI/UX or software engineering. I was
an attendee of Code and Coffee Pittsburgh and a regular attendee at Code and Supply in Pittsburgh.
Lastly, I was fortunate to intern at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Academy where I learned about
the electro and mechanical foundations of robots, autonomous bots, and some AI and Machine
Learning. Throughout the training I gained valuable foundational knowledge and hands on experience with electronics,
hardware, servos, pcb boards, Arduino, Rasberry PI and mechanics. My understanding of technology and design is ever evolving
as it draws more connections to solving real world problems. From the importance of user experience
and psychology of human behavior to the complex logical implementations of systems. I remain focused to continue my learning
between all disciplines.
